when is it safe to do ab excercises? I had a baby about 6 weeks ago... second child and want to get started on some stomach workouts. I've stopped bleeding for about a week now... is that a long enough wait? Anyone know when it's a good time?

If you had no complications during birth, it should be ok. Have you had your 6 week check up? I started about this time and I had no problems, it was actually easier for me to get started rather than sitting around and getting comfortable and end up not doing anything. It should be ok as long as you are comfortable doing so and remember to not over do it because technically you are still healing.

Vaginal birth? I would give it another couple of weeks for hard core ab workout, but you should be able to start with some nice and easy stretching exercises. If you start bleeding again, stop, its too soon.
Cesarean Section, not yet, wait until the doc has told you that your incision is totally healed (maybe as long as three months).

If it was an uncomplicated vaginal birth, then I would say you're totally ready to start with belly exercises. They usually recommend waiting about 6 weeks until you start, but with my second son, I was feeling great after about 4 weeks and I started then. It all depends on how you feel.

My doctor advised me to hold off on exercise until I got the okay from her at my 6 week postpartum visit. Even though your bleeding may have stopped, you're still in a delicate state. If you start exercising too soon you risk injuring yourself unnecessarily. Best wishes to you and your new little one:)

They say as soon as you stop bleeding it is OK, but you should always check with your OB first. Six weeks is usually good though, and on top of that your done bleeding, so just take it slow, but should be OK now!

wait a couple more weeks. They say six weeks and you can start doing things again but you dont want to do a hard work out. I would call the doctor and see what they can say.
