I keep my credit cards in my wallet but despite this the magnetic strip on each card gets damaged which renders the card useless. This has happened three times even though i changed wallets. Is there a special way to prevent this at all?

The way they told me to do that at the bank was to put the cards facing the fabric portion of the slot in your wallet. It is soft enought to keep it from wearing out or getting scratched. Hope that helped.

scatches on a credit card is not a big deal, a big deal is if it touches some magnetic. It will clear all info on it and u will have to get a new one. If you keep it in your wallet is should be fine.
