When she is being fed and when she swallows she gags. I can asure you I am not shoving food down her throat. She just gags from time to time. It is really disturbing when she does though, what could be the problem?

she gags mostly on mashed potatoes and the thicker baby food cereals. And no the mashed potatoes are not thick. they are whipped and creamy ( like baby food)

What are you feeding her when she gags?

Our 8 month old gags periodically, as well. Mostly on her bottle, but we've let her slobber on a Cheerio or two and she's gagged on those if she hasn't dissolved it enough. (She's gotten pretty good at it, though!)

Sometimes, even at 7 months, a baby forgets that she can't swallow and breath at the same time. Gagging occurs.

It could be a food allergy. If she is allergic to any of the foods you give her, her throat will close up in reaction to it, forcing her to gag. I think many children who are allergic to gluten experience this. It could also be something like heartburn or acid reflux - happens a lot in older people. Have you been giving her any new foods lately? I would tell the pediatrician about it - chances are its food related.

You need to talk to your ped about it in more detail. It could be normal gag reflex, depending on what you are feeding her. Is she overly hungry? I don't want to make you feel stupid, but that could be it and she is just eating too fast! But she may also have a swallowing problem. If your doc suspects that they can run tests through a gastronologist. Good luck to you ;)

what stage baby food are we talking about? The stage 1 is thinner then the stage 2. Try putting a little less on the spoon and see how that does.

My boy does this with food he does not like. I'd phone the dr just to make sure there are no problems, but don't worry yorself too much.

That would scare me to death. If I was you, call her doctor. Something could be wrong.
