Some smoke alarms have an off/on switch, but I think (at least here in the STATES) that local code laws dictate that smoke alarms not have an off/on switch (this is true in some areas) therefore the only way to turn it off is either remove the battery or if it is hooked up to a direct power source (such as lighting) then you must turn it off at the fuse box (usually the switch that controls power to that room/area of the house). Hope that helps.

most have a reset built into them. Hold the reset button for about 5 seconds and then you may hear a beep sometimes 4 sometimes 5 going off about 1 every minute just to let you know that your fire detector is still working. If this doesn't work. Replace the old battery with a new one and reinstall the detector right away. Don't let this stop you from using your detector. Buy a new one if you have to. They do save lives.

If it's making a beeping sound every 30 seconds, it needs a new battery. It's not advisable to take the old battery out while you get a new one, cos there's still some life in it. Go to a shop or supermarket, & buy a new one from there.

Get fresh clean air to it by wafting a newspaper under it or aiming a hair dryer at it. You could always take the battery out BUT DON'T FORGET TO REPLACE IT when any smoke has gone away.

One way is to disconnect the battery but not recommended. If its going off all the time, try to clean it with a vacuum. If that does not work, replace it.

Press the reset button. If that doesn't work, take the cover off, take the battery out and then reinstall.
