We need to do a paper every week on some subject going on around the world. This week its, "Should more troops be sent into Iraq." To "develop" our paper writing skills, the teachers have us write a paper where we need to look at both sides of the issue. We can't just say no and write all the reasons why. We need to say no, explain, then say why some people say yes to the issue, and so forth.

I want to make a point that we are pumping billions of dollars into the war when the money can be better served somewhere else. What countries (other than Darfur) have it really bad and really need our help?

Well, the country we are currently BOMBING, Somalia is the second poorest country in the WORLD. Why don't you research how much it would cost to help them diplomatically, and establish relations (which is priceless) as opposed to bombing them and the future that will hold.

As of 9/13/06, 4 months ago, at 10:30 PM, the Below is a total of the U.S. taxpayer cost of the Iraq War. The number is based on Congressional appropriations , which are available to you on the web. Good source and points for your paper:

314,448, 400,000

That's 314 billion, 446 million and 400 thousand dollars.

Instead, we could have paid for 41,648,544 children to attend a year of Head Start.
Or, we could have insured 188,291,395 children for one year.
Or, we could have provided 15,243,682 students four-year scholarships at public universities
Or, we could have built 2,831,297 additional housing units.
Or, we could have helped the victims of Katrina and rebuilt Louisiana for them instead of leaving their dead bodies in the streets and homes destroyed.
This is not to mention the priceless lives of American Soldiers and soldiers from the United Kingdom, Other European countries, Korea and Japan. This is not to mention the priceless lives of Iraqis whose lives and livelihood has been destroyed for ever.
This is not to mention the agony and grief.

And someone just told you Dharfur was part of IRAQ??!!! Wow. I propose it is EXACTLY that kind of inattention paid to events (past and present) among Americans that explains why Bush is our president........still. It is in Sudan. As far as what is going on in our country and in the world, I would be willing to bet that we are the most uninformed country in the world, certainly the most uninformed industrialized country. Yes, I would VERY optimistically put money on that. And comment towards that user: SUPPORTING a war because Bush does is ridiculous. He is a MAN. He is just a MAN and worthy only of the support he has earned. This war as Bush fights it right now has a 26% approval rating (pollingreport). Yet you propose we support a WAR, because someone who has proven himself to be the least intellectually curious president in our HISTORY does? This is my country, and IT, not a MAN, deserves the support of ALL of us can give it. When it is led in the wrong direction, we have a moral obligation to speak out to the power leading it. Supporting him shirks our obligation as Americans, as citizens in this world. We have no obligation to HIM. HE has the obligation to US, and, in his arrogance and narcissistic nature, he is IGNORING us, sending our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, cousins, etc. over there for target practice. There is a very good and well founded, educated case to be made that the man is a sociopath, and you want us to support him, because he "is our president"? please. You and Britney Spears.

CORRECTION

Darfur is not a country. It is part of Sudan (I mistakenly said Iraq).

And prehaps the money could be better spent, but it's the decision of the President and we should ultimately support him no matter what becasue he is Our President and he will be in office for 2 more years.
