i think it means that people act with their hearts , not their brains and that emotions are more powerful than intelect

Like you said, they think with their hearts, not their minds. Sometimes you get to a point in your life you can't think with your mind anymore so you are forced to think with your emotions in order to save yourself. It may not always be the right choice, but than again it's the heart leading the mind.

Emotion motivates characters in literature becuase reason is not as interesting to the reader.
