No existing tests give you more information than simply opening the case and looking at what it says on the memory.
If you want to get the right memory, the stick will, or should, have speed in NS ( nano Seconds) and a number of other details.
Other than that, try the onboard start run option, dx diag, and see what that shows

Use Crucial's Memory Adviser from here: http://www.crucial.com/ Crucial will tell you what type of memory you can install. And use Belarc to list what's in side your PC's case: http://belarc.com/free_download.html Both are free.

personally i would get the free version of everest .. i dunno about memtest thats a dos app for testing the memory .... everest will tell u ddr500 pc4000 or watever it is ...
