A couple of "unnamed" Patriots did the aforementioned "dance" on the Bolt logo at midfield while the other players were doing the handshake thing. LT understandably got angry and had to be restrained.

I am a Steelers fan so I can be unbiased when I say this. The Patriots are a classless team and have shown classness when they have won games. I have seen them come into Pittsburgh and when they have won, fake the Terrible Towel twirl, they have faked the fly Eagles fly thing when they won and they did the Shawn Merriman dance on the 50 yard line yesterday. I have to agree with LT with his assessment based on the fact that I have seen the Patriots do that kind of stuff on several different occasions. You would think that Belichik would tell the players not to act like that but oh well.

Well, I'm about to ge an un-biased as I can get. I'm a relatively recent transplant to the San Diego area from NorCal. I love the Niners (even they've given me every excuse not to). But...seeing how I'm surrounded by Chargers fans (and the subsequent Chargers-mania), I can't help but to follow Chargers football...
After the game last night, I can see a few problems with what happened in yesterday's game...
First off, lack of playoff experience. I know this sounds very generic, but the difference of how Bill Belichick called the game, and how Tom Brady played it, is what probably got the Patriots through it.
Secondly, too many mistakes by the Chargers. This probably ties in with the playoff experience. If Schottenheimer doesn't challenge an obvious fumble, he doesn't lose a timeout. That timeout gives you some time at the end of the game to drive down the field for a game tying field goal. I wasn't at the game, but you've got to believe that at the Q, they would've been replaying that play over and over again on the big screen, and the coaching staff would have seen the play well enough to advise him not to challenge. Then there's the muffed punt return by Parker. Even in high school, coaches tell punt returners to just fall on the ball in those situations. The last thing you want to do in a big game like this, is to turn the ball over in that situation.
The personal foul call after the defense sacked Brady to force a fumble (which the Pats did recover)? That was a big stop, but a defensive back losing his cool and getting flagged, giving the Pats the ball on a new set of downs, which leads to a score is completely inexcuseable. Those are the mental mistakes that an experienced playoff team just don't make.
Well, continuing on the mistakes. I've never seen the Chargers drop so many balls. Yeah, a lot of them would have been a little better-than-average catches. But a team on a 10-game wining streak knows how to make big plays when they need them. That just didn't happen yesterday.
Yesterday's game is a game where I think "Martyball" would have been effective. To me, it was a game of ball control, field position, (which, they actually did very well at), and quality time-of-possesions. But a close scoring game is all about ball control. And who better to have in that situation than L.T.? Did they get a little pass happy in the second half? I think so. Should they have kept running the ball to keep the Pats' secondary thinking run? Absolutely.
Finally, I think the defense just couldn't get enough pressure on Tom Brady. The Chargers, who led the regular season in sacks, just couldn't get anything going from their front four. Merriman was handled brilliantly by Matt Light and the blocking scheme the Pats put together. And as we all saw, when Tom Brady has time to make plays, he does.
I think Phillip Rivers' trip to Hawaii will be the first of many. But honestly, you could see how the experience of Tom Brady came through and kept the Pats in the game the entire time. Do I believe Phillip Rivers will get there, yes. Its just going to take lessons like yesterday, and seasons like this one to do it.
You have to hand it to the Pats, they did win. But I really think the Chargers were/are the better team of the field. It was just one of those cases where they beat themselves more than the opposing team did. It's just unfortunate they were playing a QB like Tom Brady and a pretty solid Pats team.
Well, that's my two cents....Good luck to the NFC!

A few of the patriot players were immitating Merrimans' sack dance that he does at mid field and LT took exception to it. What LT should have took exception to was the stupid play calling in the second half. He averaged 5.8 a carry in that game, and should have been given the ball every damn play in the fourth quater.

I dont get how LT can be called a sore loser. He's had plenty of losses before. the chargers sucked his first few seasons and he's lost in the playoffs before. Also, i'm think that the girl named freedom is somewhat racist. How you can say that LT has a "gangster in the street" attitude. He confronted people who were taunting his teammate and hes a gangster?? Stereotypes people.

Classless act on the part of the Patriots, LT responded to this in heat of the moment and emotions. Basically Bellicheck and Boys are arrogant, classless, distasteful, disrespectful, jerks and I wish them nothing but bad luck.
You have to realize, Owens did this to the Dallas Star years ago and someone steam rolled him when he sttod in the Dallas Star and disrespectde it now I dont blame LT for getting pissed.

I just have to agree with mattapan26's take. I mean, watching Merriman twitch after a sack...it's like you are watching him shake off the excess testosterone. Another example of a steroid-freak/cheater in professional sports.

Merriman did his "dance" after several routine and unspectacular plays that made it seem very unsportsmanlike. Most people did not realize that he was just twitching from steroid withdrawal and not actually trying to get in the Patriots' faces.

LT did what he had to do. He may have been considered a sore loser but you have to be a good winner also( You won, great, but don't disrespect the opponent.)
