I moved into my new place about a month ago, and ever since they neighbors have been coming over mooching ciggarettes, sugar, ice, tea, whatever they can think of. If we don't have it, they go somewhere else. How can i deal with this without being rude?

I have quit giving them stuff, but I just say I don't have it and they come back later or the next day and ask for something else.

I would ignore the door, but my 3 year old always screams when someone knocks. Then he tries to answer it. We are trying to teach him not to answer the door, but its hard, when we have to tell him not to, and the neighbors hear us. I just don't want to make them feel that I feel I am better than them. I am (financially) but don't want to make them feel bad.

You're going to have to be rude. Your neighbors aren't getting the message from non-rudeness. Take it in stages. The next stage is:
"I'm sorry, I don't have any of that for you today."
Repeat as necessary.

It's a true statement -- even if you have it, it's not for them.

Wow, that is noticeably ambitious of him to ask a want like that. noticeably because you do not even recognize him. people like that oftentimes do no longer settle for an difficulty-free no. he will likely no longer take no for an answer, arising with different excuses in an attempt to communicate you into it. it truly is even as i'd tell him off.

I would just tell them that I generally dont like to get into lending and borrowing. The best way to deal with things like this is straight on.

That sounds really ghetto. I wouldn't answer my door and ignore them. They'll get the message.

Just keep telling them no. They might stop eventually if they don't get anything else from you.

Go ask them for stuff. See how they like it.

Place a sign on the door that states " I am having financial difficulties. Please do not ask me for anything".

Just keep smiling & saying "No", they'll get the idea eventually.
