This is a good question especially as it's National Safety Awareness Week. Here you go... the Skier (and snowboarder) Responsibility Code:

1) Always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.

2) People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.

3) You must not stop where you obstruct a trail, or are not visible from above.

4) Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look up hill and yield to others.

5) Always use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.

6) Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.

7) Prior to using any lift, you must have the knowledge and ability to load, ride and unload safely.

If you're in a competition, they have more specific rules, but general mountain rules are:

1) Stay in control - don't bomb down a slope all reckless cause it gives other snowboarders a bad rep.
2) Be courteous - don't cut in line for jumps/rails/etc and check out the landing before you hit a jump cause someone might be lying in the snow.
3) Easy style it - go easy and move on to harder tricks progressively. This means no backflips on your first time out (unless you're just a phenom). And definitely no 25 stair rail to the parking lot.

Have fun...

Competitive races will have their own rules.
Competitive freestyle also will have their own.

The only rule about snowboarding when going down the mountain is not to hit the trees.

#1 rule is yield to downhill traffic. If you are a faster rider than someone below you always provide enough clearance when you pass them to ensure you will not collide with them if they make a sudden turn in your direction (it happens all the time). I worked at Vail mountain for 4 years and situations like this are the #1 cause of injuries on the slopes. Remember, a rider below you on the run is focusing in front of them not on who is coming up behind them. Rule #2- Have fun and remember that everyone is there to have a good time and noone wants to go home injured.

Have fun, be yourself, help anybody who falls (even if it is a skier), try not to run into trees, ask for help when you need it, always board with a buddy, laugh when you fall, when you fall and it was really bad so it hurts- sit up right away- if you lay down people at the top can't see you so you could get hit.

Hello,
one rule I follow is always bring my own tools (screwdriver, wrench, snowboard wax etc...) and check my equipment before I ride. Make sure your bindings and tight and your board is waxed properly. No wax can cause you to lose control.

Bring your own food. Resort food is expensive. Bring snack bars, fruit and water.

Make sure you are prepared. sunglasses or goggles, chap stick, gloves, extra socks, etc....

Be safe of course by looking ahead and watching for others.

Make sure you have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok.so I think the most important thing is to lean on the leg, foot that is in front. don't lean on the leg behind because this way you will not have enough speed. your knees have to be a little bent ,never stay withot your knees bent because you'll fall. you'll learn how to do the curves after you've learnt to keep your ballance. hope this explanation helps you. good luck.

first rule... skiers are the ENEMY

second rule... if a skier goes down yell " YARD SALE" as loud as you can

third rule... as you blow by skiers yell AVALANCH!!!!

If all else fails, buy an expensive board, boots, bindings and a SMOKIN HOT outfit and practice on your POSES.
