The Silver Surfer was originally the Herald of Galactus. He sought out new worlds for Galactus to consume. The Fantastic Four encountered him the first time he came to the Earth.

The Silver Surfer was first the herald of Galactus, a being who destroyed planets and consumed the energy to survive, so in that sense you could say he was bad. He broke away from Galactus' service, however, and became a hero later.

He use to be bad, I think he would find planets for Galactus.to consume or something, can't remember. Overtime he became good, i know that.
FF 2 is potraying the silver surfer when he first comes to earth too, he is sorta between anti hero and villain when that happens.
You might wanna do some reasearch if ya want to know more.

ok...first of all I continually separate the comics from the flicks. so long because the basics are there. i'm ok. caution: accessible SPOILERS besides. contained in the COMICS ... the Silver Surfer turned right into a guy named Norrin Radd. He lived in an section called Zenn-l. a.. to save his homestead and his genuine love Shalla-Bal from the international eater Glactus he provides to develop into the tremendous G's usher in. So Galactus replaced Radd into the SilverSurfer. The usher in's job is to practice the planet for the creation of Galactus. If the Surfer looks then...gulp....Galactus is quickly to save on with. Then...massive G...your planet....lunch. *massive SPOILER* replaced my recommendations...let's basically say...the Surfer is one among those classic tragic characters compelled to do evil to save many...yet what's in someone's' heart...nicely... it often sees by contained ultimately. yet many circumstances...with a cost. that's an recommendations-blowing tale line. with slightly of success they are real to the comedian, yet desire that's purely a good movie and bigger than the first one. Surfer's 1st visual appeal: spectacular 4 #40 8 Created with information from Jack "King" Kirby & Stan Lee

Never trust a movie version to be fully accurate to its adapted source. Like any other medium, translation from one media to another (book to movie, comic to movie, movie to play, etc) always results in some changes, artistic treatments and quite commonly, production transformations depending on the producer/distrubutor/director's whims.

He was never bad. He was forced to serve Galactus and seek out worlds for Galactus to consume so that Galactus would spare his homeworld. I imagine if he were an earthman, he would have done the same for this planet.
