Gosh, that's strange! I've never seen that before. It must have been arranged ahead of time for some bizzare reason. Unless the audience was full of women from the Middle East, in which case it is consdered to be an acceptable audience response.

It's traditional in some Middle eastern societies. Some customs are hard to understand outside of that culture, or even BY that culture, but I think at the root is: to be heard.
I think they need to be aware that their customs do not translate outsdie their group, and some need to be discarded in the wider society.
I HOPE this wasn't the embarrassing spectacle of Western women adopting a foreign custom. That would be asinine.

Ululate means to howl or wail (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=ululate). I'm not sure why women would be wailing at the end of a lecture. And I'm also not sure how wailing equates to Girls Gone Wild (were the women also taking off their shirts?).
"Ululate" does not apply to one sex. Men can also ululate. No one wants to see that either.

Maybe they do. I went to see a Ya movie once and all the people in the audience were ululating.

It is a pathetic attempt by religious fanatics to distract from questions and challenges to what they believe. It's no different than people standing up at a political rally and shouting down the speaker because they disagree with his politics. All this accomplishes is to show how silly and childish and mortally rude these people are. They are to be pitied and held in contempt.

Well men do that too (reference the football game around Thanksgiving or during the playoffs or superbowl).
Anyways, it was probably the subject matter that Dawkins was reading about. Or.. they could've simply been trying to get their word in edge-wise (asking a question, perhaps), like they always do. :-)

This question is ridiculous and sexist. Now, you're the one doing the lamenting. At least she was on Cspan. You are just on Yahoo Answers.

Perhaps they were "cheering"? Why would men cheering be acceptable and not women? All humans should be able to express themselfs as long as it doesn't harm others.
