Using any external headphones/speakers will drain the battery unless you are also supplying power to the iPod. Using non-powered speakers will drain it even faster, as the iPod will be forced to supply all of the power necessary to make the sound audible through the speakers (where powered speakers are self-amplifying so you can adjust the volume without drawing additional power from the iPod). If you have a Gen1 Shuffle, it'll have a separate USB plug that can be used to supply power while the headphone jack can be hooked directly to the speakers. If it's a Gen2 Shuffle, the headphone jack supplies all the power, so the only way to get both would be to use the included dock or an aftermarket solution (like DLO's Power Bug) and find a way to split the feed. If the included dock does not have a headphone jack built in (a greivous oversight if it doesn't), the only solution I can think of besides simply using a computer (at which point you could just as easily play the songs directly through iTunes without the Shuffle being involved) would be to get some sort of stereo or boombox that has a USB port (which should be able to both read the incoming sound data and supply independant power). I'm not sure of such a thing exists, aside from the odd car stereo deck.
