Happy King Day Smitty! Frank Robinson was the first black manager in big league history for the Cleveland Indians and was also a player manager. He is also probably the most underrated Hall of Famer in Major League history which has always been a source of amazement to me particularly when you look at the numbers he posted during his great career.

Frank Robinson, the Hall of Famer who spent most of his career with Baltimore and Cincinatti. He started his managerial career with the Indians in 1975 going 79-80, he has managed in order, Cleveland, San Francisco, Baltimore, and Montreal/Washington. He retired after the 2006 season with a 1065-1176 win loss record for a .475 percentage.

Yeah, Frank Robinson was the first manager in the majors (in fact, he was the first black manager in both the National and American leagues, first with Cleveland as a player/manager in 1975 and then with San Francisco in 1981, I think). The first black man to ever hold a major league coaching job was Buck O'Neill.
