Well,
It seems early to start on sippy cups. What I would do is give him a sippy cup,but let him drink from a bottle if he dosnt have any interest in the sippy cup. Keep the sippy cup out on the floor. This way he might pick up the sippy cup and start learning how do use it on his own...Don't force it on him b/c it will just make things worse. Make sure to get a sippy cup that wont spill incase he tries to tip or knock it over.

I took one bottle away every day for a week or two, and replaced it w/ a sippy cup. I took the afternoon one away first b/c that was the one that held the least interest for my daughter. Then went to the early am one and so on. Until, all that was left was the night-night bottle. That was definitely the hardest, but we just kept to the bedtime routine and it seemed to help. Both of my daughter's were off the bottle, totally, by a year. Though, I don't know about only juice in the sippy, b/c when you try to put milk in it later you might run into the problem that he won't accept it.

I went to parenting classes after my first child was born. They told me that 6 months was the age to introduce sippy cups to babies. Also when you put juice in their cip make sure to dilute it with water. I just started to put formula in his sippy cup with meals and by eight months ... no more bottle. I was glad because I know some people who could'nt get the bottle away from their kids until they were almost four. So starting now is a good time because they are too young to know to miss it. Unlike if you wait until they are older there will be more of a fight or struggle to get rid of it.

It sounds like you are already on the right track. The best thing you can do is make sure he doesn't get too attatched to his bottle in the first place. There is no need to eliminate it completely at this point, but when he starts eating solid foods, you might try only giving it to him when he demands it. The more he is used to the sippy, the less difficult the switch will be. You're doing great, so just keep on doing what you're doing.

As a mother and a grandmother, I offer the sippy cup frequently. I don't recommend too much juice, use water instead. I even offer the sippy cup empty as more of a toy. That way they become comfortable with the cup.

It sounds like you're already doing all you need to do. The best sippy cup i found is by avent ... its called magic trainer i think. The spout on it is soft and flexible so it makes for a very easy transition. They are quite expensive though, but they are definately worth it... good luck.

get ones that are colorful and for his age level. They have ones that are easy to hold and such, just for younger babies. Try just switching it. Simple as that. Instead of a bottle when he is thirsty, give him a sippy cup.

Breaking a habit is never easy. Kids as well as adults. The best way, since there is going to be drama anyway, is to stop giving him bottles and never look back. This is hard if he takes one to sleep, which he shouldn't be doing anyway.
