Mes Schools do not require that you major in a particular subject. You must complete the pre-req courses, which usually include chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, biology, physics, calculus, and a couple others. And you need to have about a 3.5 to 3.8 average in those science courses as a minimum.
You can google on "majors for medical students" and you will get some sites that actually list exactly how many current US medical students majored in different subjects, how many of them applied to med school and how many were accepted.

I visited the Medical College of Wisconsin when I was a senior in high school and while there medical students and physicians answered our questions and talked to us about the general requirements for getting into medical school and becoming a physician. I learned that id doesn't matter what your major is all that matters is that you take the required pre-requisite courses. Some medical schools are big on grades where as others care more about experience. I am currently double majoring in biology and chemistry because I want to be prepared for medical school and the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test). But also because I am really good at biology, and chemistry is more of a challenge for me, therefore it intrigues me.

I'm sure there are people who majored in English and are in medical school, but what do you think will impress the admissions officer? Can you see someone asking, "Why did he major in English if he wants to get into med school?"

It does not matter what degree you are presently pursuing in college. What really matters, of course, is the appropriate courses that will get you in medical school.
