Politics. Pure politics.
It wasn't only the Democrats who suggested it. It was also the President's own Iraq Commission, and his leading generals (since fired).
Politics and arrogance. Too bad for those who get in the way (American soldiers, innocent Iraqi's).

Because then it would like they were wrong with their own strategy in Iraq and that the Democrats were correcting them, and before the November elections, that would certainly have cost them some Congressional seats.
Besides, it is much easier to "listen to the generals on the ground" until their (the Republicans') strategy fails, and then say "Based on the most recent intelligence from our military chiefs of staff, we are now doing this or that" to take the attention off of the plan that failed and put it on the new plan.

because that is broadly speaking Democrats who're scuffling with Bush and by no skill assisting the troops. Alot of Republicans help the President as well. the yank public is being brainwashed by technique of the media to be anti-conflict. Plus, that is unlike all American has been polled about their opinion on Iraq. i recognize i have not and that i do not recognize each person who has. also, that is customarily Democrats like Murtha who want to dodge the troops from receiving practise and resources.

This is an attempt to get the American people on board. Bush is going to say, "Look America, I am trying to send more troops to the frontline in Iraq, but these mean ol' Democrats say they won't pay for them. Do you really want your boys and girls on the frontline with no money?" Of course, we know Bush made the decision to send them, not Congress. (But it's a secret, don't tell.)

Now the Dems are against it when the Reps suggest it, so there is Political BS everywhere unfortunately. Im for it, the generals and the Iraqis are hopeful about the new Bush plan.
