i use a sd card, and i heard that when you save videos using the camara it is slower then using a card reader.

the only difference might come from the USB protocol every "box" uses. i.e. if the camera has USB 1.1 and the card reader is USB 2.0 capable... then , definitely the reader will be way faster; otherwise, they'll be pretty much the same speed. (if same USB ver.!) that is, if the camera can be connected to the PC through USB ; if it uses a classic serial cable, no way! the reader is for sure the best option! things change 'a bit' if your camera can be linked to the computer also with a "firewire" connection. then it will be the fastest possible!

It depends on the speed of the computer vs the speed of the processor in the camera (plus of course the connection to the PC) sorry not much help I know
