It has been used in the past to be rude. And it generalizes. Koreans and Indians and Indonesians are pretty different folks, so what is the point of lumping them all together?

Some people think the word "oriental" has negative connotations. If it were me I would ask someone who is Asian if the word offends them. If youre not sure ask a reliable source is my motto. How can someone who's not Asian tell you if Oriental would offend an Asian? Hopefully someone who is of Asian descent can clear this up for you. Good luck.
