i would like a desktop. we are using it primarily for school/homework, media projects (photos, video and art) and music storage (downloaded and original scores). doesnt need any business bells/whistles, just basic stuff but powerful and user friendly. sales people are not a good source because they are trying to make a sale. i want user feedback and recommendations please. affordable as well. trying to spend less than $800.

I do not know costs well, but I agree, Apple's are awesome. I have an IBook, have all the MS Office applications to do some of my work requirements. The video and art, photo, etc offered on Apple is amazing.

I'd say Dell. They are inexpensive and user friendly. I have owned a Gateway and a Compaq before and my Dell is the best out of all of those. I bought my PC and printer for way under $800.

If you're going to get any internet hook ups like a router or a wireless adapter, go to best buy for those because the sales guy will tell you how to hook it up and all that stuff.

If you don't want a Dell than I'd say your second best choice would be Gateway. Good luck!

you may purely use an XP disk to place in XP on one laptop. in case you attempt to place in it on a 2d laptop (illegally) you is truthfully no longer waiting to validate it with Microsoft. in case you uninstalled XP from the 1st laptop Microsoft could enable you to place in it once you call Microsoft applying the telephone quantity you will take transport of while the validation is rejected. As of January a million Microsoft will now no longer sell OEM variations of XP to laptop makers. Dell won't sell a working laptop or laptop with out an working equipment. Dell now no longer even sells and XP platforms at Dell Outlet. because you will ought to reformat the laptop to place in XP it makes no distinction if the difficultcontinual is sparkling or has Vista pre-put in. Get Vista dwelling house top rate and get all the disks. this way in case you elect to place in Vista at some destiny date, and you will, you have gotten the applying for loose. once you format and setting up XP you will ought to place in the XP drivers to your modem; laptop/motherboard; video card; sound card; community card; mouse; internet cam; and so on. that's probable if that's a sparkling laptop kind, that there are not any XP drivers obtainable to your laptop. with out the XP drivers the laptop will run sluggish, if in any respect.

The new Apple computer is the best by far. It runs both Windows and Apple platforms. It is practically virus proof, and is excellent for graphic work. It costs more but is well worth the price.

Try to find a used screen, so you can put your investment into the CPU. Buying the whole system is going to run you around $400 for the monitor they included in the deal.

Dell. Also check their cheaper outlet online. It is 40 % cheaper. Go to outlet.dell.com and then click on desktops. You will thank me later.
