MP3 players are better than CD players in my opinion. You have all of your music in one place; no more stacks of Cd's! ( I have a pink 4GB iPod Nano and I love it!!)
Using an mp3 player is pretty simple: First, you have to copy your Cd's to your computer, called "ripping." You can go through Windows Media Player, iTunes, or any other music software you want to use.
Ripping Cd's can take a while depending on how many you want to copy. It takes a few minutes for each CD.
After you rip all your music, follow the directions for connecting your mp3 player, usually you just connect using the USB cable that comes with your player.
A lot of MP3 players come with some nice extras too like FM tuners for listening to the radio, voice recorders, organizer functions such as calendars, contact storage, and some even come with games.
Now as for players under $60, places like Walmart, Target, or Best Buy are good places to start. Just search for players under $60 and you should find a pretty good selection. I just looked on walmart.com and found a few that match your price range:
Creative MuVo 1GB: $59.86
Sandisk Sansa m230 512MB: $49.62
RCA Lyra 512MB: $59.88
I haven't owned any of these so I don't know how good they are, but I remember doing some research and seeing some good reviews for the Creative MuVo player. I would recommend doing a Google search for the players you're interested in to find some reviews. Amazon.com and epinions.com usually have good reviews too. Also, I wanted to mention that for $60 you'll find players 1GB or under.
Here's a list of some good articles about buying your first mp3 player:

and here's one on how to rip Cd's to mp3's:

MP3 players are alot beter than cd players. You don't even have to have I tunes you can put songs form CD's on it. If you want a good MP3 player that is easy to use get an iPod shuffle. Its about $75 dollars but it is good quality player.

Yeah theyre way better but for $60 you can get one but not w/ alot of room. Theyre easy to work. Recently I bought one for 230 and it took a long time to get to work that one but now I've got the hang of it. Its a SansaE280. Those are good, they have vid and all that but for starters you probably just want a small one.
