the seedings are done for a reason/the lowest seeded team is always going to have a tough time pulling out a monumental upset...it can be done but the probability is remote

Eventually it will happen. There have been five games since 1989 which a #16 seed team has lost by 5 or less points to the #1 seed, including one game that went into overtime. Honestly, #16 Princeton should have beat Georgetown in 1989, but was screwed on some calls late in the game as the refs clearly didn't want to be the ones to allow a 16 seed to advance. Murray State lost by 4 in OT to Michigan State in 1990. There have also been 5 #2 seeds be beat #15 seeds.
So obviously, it will happen someday. When, I have no idea. But I know every year I am pulling for that upset and it will sure be sweet when it happens.

A 16th seed will beat a #1 seed in March 18th, 2009. It is a game between #16 seed Florida Central and #1 seed Kentucky. Florida Central wins it in regulation 88-86. This will be the first time in NCAA tournament history that a #1 seed team falls to a #16 seed team.

In 1991 the #15 Richmond Spiders beat the #2 Syracuse Orangemen who were favored to win it all 73-69 in what was the biggest upset in NCAA history.
Will a #16 seed beat a #1 seed? Who knows.

I would say in the next 5 years it will happen... look at UCLA they got jacked up by oregon... they almost lost to WASHINGTON STATE... Virginia tech derailed north carolina... i think it could even happen this year that a 16 seed beats a 1 seed
