Depending on what kind of exam and how hard it would be (to your knowledge). For a vocab quiz I don't even bother studying until the last min and just cram. For AP exams in this situation I would say.. no hope, just read over the notes. For a regular high school test, depending on how well you know the material, if you know it well then just scan the chapter for the things you dunno. If you don't then read all the bold points and take some notes so you can read them tomorrow at school.

Turn off the computer
Turn off the radio and the tv and the music player

Open the book and stay up all night trying to learn as much as possible in the time I had left. No talking with friends - no "taking a break" - I would stay up and cram.

After the exam was over, I would look at my life and my study habits and I'd try to figure out what I needed to change so this kind of thing wouldn't happen again.

Make flashcards. Writing out the info is reinforcement, and you can bring them with you anywhere, including school, so you can even look at them while you waiting for the exam to be passed out
Don't try to read the whole chapter. You don't have time for that. Read things in bold, and copy down any dates, important facts, and definitions.
When it comes to people, it always helped me to make up rhymes (ex. Sigmund Freud was sexually annoyed)
Look through your class notes. If your professor mentioned something more than once,it's going to be on the test!
And two thing I learned in cognitive psych:
1) Always do one last review before you go to sleep. The info will stay fresher in your memory because there'e no other stimulus interrupting it.
2) When it comes to multiple choice, if yor not sure of the answer, always stick with your first instinct (90% of the time it's correct) Certain things send off signal paths in our brain, and all though it might not make sense to you, trust your brain!
Good luck on your test...think A's!!!

Start studying!!! I feel your pain. I've been in college a while and that just happens sometimes, but the best advice I can give you is to just start studying. Then, try to get at least 6 hours of sleep before the test. Good luck!

CRAM! To be honest with you, I am a teacher, and I try to teach my students to be much more responsible with their study habits. If you would have begun by studying your notes DAILY, you wouldn't be in this mess. I think you had better get your index cards out, and write the questions on one side and the answers on the other; you will definitely be looking at one heck of crappy night. Take breaks every 20 minutes, and I guess since you weren't responsible enough to study every day, you'll be up all day and all night studying for the exam, depending on how much information is going to be on it.

1. Spend every waking moment studying, or
2. Contact the instructor and ask about scheduling an alternate exam time.

is it for music?
well im a music teacher so my advice would be to study as much as poss tonight!
if you dont already know the important information for music then chances are you arnt going to get much out of tonight coz u need to know ALOT.

start by just studying sections of your work and see how that goes..its not too late to contact people from your music class that you can team up with and gather information together..you are going to need it!! But dont give up.

Use flashcards if you can, it's the best way to know if you have committed the material to memory and to know what areas you need more work on. Look at them at different times throughout the day. Repitition commits things to memory. Also try to associate things in your mind and use acronyms, use the first letter of each word (ex: the order of operations in math is parenthesis, exponents, multiply, divide, add, subtract, which works out to be "pedmas" or "please excuse my dear aunt sally")

call in sick, if that doesnt work just read over the notes that you've wrote in class most of the times teachers test material consists of only what was discussed in class and group discussions. Or you can sit next to a very smart person in class and act like you've got a lazy eye nd let your eyes sort of wander on his paper. But I would recommend you call in sick 1st!
