28lbs is a pretty good weight gain, and birth control pills can sometimes contribute to weight gain.
Just remember that as you get older, your metabolism changes. What used to not stick to your frame will now add serious pounds. It may not be the pill at all, or it may be a factor.

It's a common side effect, yes. Some people gain weight, some don't. I have been on depo-vera for 9 months and haven't gained weight. I've actually lost it, but I was dieting as well, so that's why I lost. Either way, I was one of the lucky ones who didn't gain a pound, but other people do gain weight.

Personally i am not on the pill, but i know some freinds or other girls that are and yes they have put on a little bit of weight..its okay...its nothing out of the ordinary..dont worry

Your weight gain would have been sudden, within 2 months of taking it. It would not be noticable and still happening almost a year later.

Sometimes the pill makes you put on a tad bit, but not as much as pregnancy does.

yes it does cause weight gain..but not by solids...but by liquids....it's called water gain...my doctor told me this when i was asking about birth control alternatives...
