Citizen kane is maybe for a lot of people (myselve not included) not a real entertaining movie, But there is no doubt about it that aws one of the most important movies ever made.

The visual style of "Citizen Kane" looks stunningly fresh and inventive even today, and the unconventional narrative structure of the Oscar-winning screenplay still seems daring. Welles' portrayal of a character who gradually ages from 25 to old age is unexcelled, and the movie's supporting cast, most of whom had worked previously with Welles on stage and radio productions, is superb. In short, everything came together in "Citizen Kane" to make it one of the greatest character studies ever captured on film.

It is considered the best movie ever made primarily because it almost never came out. It is a movie that broke all the rules. It used and listed a Black Listed writer long before the Movie Spartacus came out. It attacked the most powerful newpaper man in the world at the time and survived his attempts to get the movie burned. It told a a trashy tabloid story in an artistic manner so as to hide from manner was being talked about by the word "Rosebud". It invented new techniques in film making, lighting, camera angles and such that are copied to this day. But mainly it is the bast because it came out when noone thought it would, and instead of destroying Hollywood, it made it into an even more autonomous business that no longer had to fear the power of the press to destroy the entire industry over the existence of a single film, and those were the stakes with this film, all or nothing. Luckily Hearst went bankrupt or the story would be different.

Citizen Kane is considered the first "special effects" movie ever made. That is the main reason it's considered the greatest movie ever.

I think it's purely subjective. There are a handful of films that belong in the conversation when the topic is "greatest movie ever made." I think that "Kane" absolutely belongs in the mix, and I wouldn't argue too vigorously against "Vertigo," either, which I've always though was Hitchcock's best.

I think the way it was shot, at that time the storyline, the actors. I don't think it was the greatest movie but it's definitely one of the top 10. Love Orsen Wells
