I absolutely love this story. I don't think I read it, but saw and have a video of the movie. Great movie with John Mills and other stellar actors.
Hmmm - 10 items for memories they hold:
1. Tickler
2. Horn that blows to announce a convict has escaped
3. Pudding dish - that given to the convict for food
4. Cobwebs - memories of the rich lady
5. candle - memories of young beautiful girl who brought him into the haunted house
6. washbasin - used by the lawyer to wash his hands always after dealing with murderers
7. mask - mask of a convicted murderer who had been hanged
8. boxing gloves - reminiscent of his boxing match with the young man.
9. new clothing - reminder of his journey into prosperity
10. rowboat - reminder of trying to save his benefactor.
It's a long time since I saw this movie, but I remember it quite clearly. Very powerful visualizations. I don't remember the names of all the characters, but if you have read the book you will be able to fill those in.
