Do you have to invite your husband's family to your family's baby shower or is it customary for his family to throw their own shower?

My husband and I chose to do a "jack and jill" baby shower; I figure I didn't get pregnant alone, so he should be involved in all aspects of the pregnancy, including the shower. And to be honest, he loved it! It made him feel like a true partner and not just the "sperm donor." I think men/soon-to-be-father's get left out far too often. So, we had a huge shower coupled with a huge party after! People could come and go as they please and for as long as they wanted. It really was a blast! And it was really nice to see both sides of the family hanging out together; afterall, our son is part of both sides of the family. I don't want to alienate half of the family that are and should be playing a very vital role in my son's life.

IF the families get along well.....invite both of them!!! It would probably be a fun activity and a chance for each side to bond over this wonderful event!!! Make sure to include an activity/game that allows each member to express their excitement over the new little one (I have a page of sentimental activities on my website....I put the link below!!)

IF their is tension between the families....then I would say try to have seperate showers or to not invite his family to the shower your family is throwing. This is about people close to you expressing their love and excitement....and tension could throw a wrench in that!!

Good luck and have fun!

You can do it either way. We combined both families at my baby shower but my sister-in-law had two seperate showers. If your families get along with one another than I would just do one and get it over with. Baby showers are fun but also stressful.

What ever you are comfortable with.
And remember Men having Diaper parties are a lot of fun for them.
Basically all of the men in the family get together and watch sports, play card or just hang out. But of all the the guest bring a pack of diapers for the dad to be

Depends how close the in-laws are to the person having the baby.
