I am buying a laptop soon and I'm looking for good places to find one. I've been looking at TigerDirect.com - is this a good site? My computer-savvy friend recommended it to me. I'm mostly looking for Gateways or Dells. Does anyone know of any other retailers where I'll get a good buy for the money?

Thanks!

If you want a Dell, then dell actually has an outlet where they sell refurbished and returned PC's for a fraction of the cost. I bought my dell there 3 years ago and I have NEVER had one single problem with it. The website is outlet.dell.com then click on notebooks and you can pick and choose what you want.

Good Luck !!!

It is about 40% cheaper than buying brand new on average

Computers/Laptops wear and tear like a car does. I highly recommend when buying a laptop that you get a warranty deal that covers it for atleast 3 or more years(3 years is when computers start to act up).

Dell has some of the best warranty options I have seen. Dell allows you to send back the broken laptop and they will either fix it or send you a new one.

You have to go through dell.com to buy the warranty though... You can't just go to tigerdirect and get it....

TigerDirect is a good place to get a cheap laptop. It's a good recommendation. Many laptop makers also allow you to buy direct from the company, which is nice because then you can order the exact components that you want.. If you are a student, make sure that you ask for the educational pricing -- you can get a discount that way. You might need to talk to a different sales department in that case.

I agree. Macs are better and with a little help from your computer savvy friends you can run any window app. So there is no need for a Dell or a Gateway. Apples are better computers. Better Hardware, and Better OS.
