this film has been described to me by a work colleague but he can't remember the name of it. he has given me a vague description so here goes- a late 50's early 60's black and white horror/thriller and a scene with a carousel with music similar to steven from alice cooper's welcome to my nightmare album

Carnival of Blood (1970)
A brutal murder has taken place at Coney Island amusement park, and DA Dan is assigned to investigate and bring the killer to justice. For some reason, he decides to celebrate his engagement to Laura by inviting his fiancee to come with him and enjoy the park, even though there is still a violent murderer running loose. As the body count rises, Dan must sift through the clues before he or Laura become the next victims.

Saw it in my early teens when it was showing... scary... very, very scary... funnily, a friend and I were recalling horror films of the days you mention and we both felt this one was really a bad memory to share!
