I would really like to teach art; teaching and art are my passions. I am currently looking to transfer to a University and I'm not sure if I need to major in art and get a teaching certificate or major in art education (although it seems that not many schools offer that major).

Are any of you art teachers if so how is it? Can you give me some advice about what classes I should take? I live in Texas. Does anyone know of any Universities that would be good for this major?

Thanks!

You should talk to a student adviser. They will have all of your answers. To teach art you are definitely going to have to take a lot of art classes... that's obvious. In my school (I go to an art school) to teach K-12 you major in Art Education.

I don't live in Texas so I can't help you with specific schools in your area. I would google/ yahoo art education schools in Texas and see what comes up.

You will need a degree in Art Education and pass the certification exam.

Look at universities that fit the kind of person you are, get you into the classroom right away to work with students, that have a great financial aid package, and provide the opportunities for learning that you are interested in.

These sites may help you. Best wishes! Kids need a teacher who is passionate...follow your dream!
