Put a cap on it, and change the fuel filter.

Missing gas cap shouldn't affect it. I'm assuming if you changed the fuel pump that you thought to drain out the old gas.

If you tried to crank it before you drained the old gas, you might've gummed up the fuel injectors. Try running some fuel injector cleaner through it (if you can keep it running).

If you still haven't drained the gas, then obviously get some fresh gas in it, if it still won't run, you might need to actually take the fuel injection apart and clean it out (not sure if you have port or throttle body fuel injection). Another things that can happen when a car sits are the valves can get sticky - there are gas additives to help that too.

Depending on what state of repair the car was in when it was taken out of service, you might also want to change the spark plugs (make sure they are gapped correctly), air filter, plus any breather filter it may have. I would suggest replacing the battery - or having the old one checked out and deep charged.

If it still won't work, then it might be a computer problem, usually sitting won't affect them, but depending on where it was stored, it may have gotten moisture into it.

You might want to add some gas restore to the fuel tank or some Methal Hydrate if fuel was left in the vehicle while it was unused. Old gasoline will actually turn to jelly and it has to be restore to it's liquid state. Might want to also have a look at the fuel filter as it could be partially blocked with this old solidified fuel.

i would check the fuel filter and some newer cars the gas cap has to be put on accordingly.i know the gas cap thing sounds dumb but its a FACT.its probably your filter or maybe put some dry gas on it in case there is water in the fuel.good luck!

newer cars run off of a somewhat pressurized gas cap, and can even throw a code, if it would run long enough, the computer might be noticing the gas cap off and shutting off the car, buy a gas cap and then try if nothing else get a code tester and hook it up to your car.

1st off, change the fuel filter, put a cap on it, then tune it up(plugs, wires, cap and rotor), after that check to see if the fuel shut off has been hit/disconnected. also I would put a battery in it to ensure that its getting enough electricity. it could also be some damage to the ignition wiring. Without proper diagnosis you can't make a proper repair...

How old is the gas? If old this may be the problem ( moisture etc) plus it may be a good idea to add some fuel system cleaner to remove old varnish
