best idea is to call your internet supplier for support, first thing u do is check to see if u have a valid ip address. from start--> run --> cmd and then ipconfig
then to test the connecton u can do ping www.bbc.co.uk or ping 212.58.224.36
this can also be caused by a firewall.

i assume u have a router so i include it in my writeup. u got to ping to see if your connection works, go to run, type cmd, type ipconfig /all, type ping ###.###.#.#( they should be the gateway ip address. If successfully then u will get all 4 packets and zero losses. u might have an invalid ip address. ur computer might be assigned a static ip address. if you are using a router check to see everything is connect. ie. the internet connection. u can still be connected but to the router only and not the internet. check ur modem to see if there are any error lights. One more thing is that if u use dsl and a separate router, and its PPPOE connection or similar then u have to set the router up. u should go to the internet browser and type in the ip that is in ur router manual. the most common is 192.168.1.1 the user name is usually blank or admin and the pw is admin i assume u didn't change it. u will see the area to set up ur internet connect. i hope my info help. contact ur isp for more help if you need. p.s. router sometime loses memory after power loss.
