Having read many of the answers, I have to caution you: If you use some of the hints, tips and/or tricks suggested, you may end up delivering very wrong lines. If the punchline to a bit is "octopus" and you use some "memory device" and end up saying "tentacled fish", you've ruined the writer's joke for that scene.
The only sure way to memorize is the same way you memorized your best friend's phone number, your address and other things you use daily: repetition. Not fun, not glamorous, but decisive. Read the first sentence of the line wot or three times. Now close the book and repeat it two or three times. The do the same thing with the next sentence in your line. Then put the two sentences together two or three times. Then the next sentence two or three times, then all three sentences together, and so on.
It's tedious, but in the end your performance will be letter perfect. Remember practice does NOT make perfect; practice only makes permanent. If you practice it wrong, you will perform it wrong.

There are several approaches. One is to repeat the lines to yourself. One of the things I do, when preparing for an audition particularly, is to start from the first line and if I make an error, go back and start again. This assures lots of repetition.

While you're in rehearsal, make sure that each line has a purpose, and if you move on the line connect that purpose to the movement and the line. Make sure you're talking to someone on stage and that you know what you want from that person.

Do not repeat lines in front of a mirror!!!! This will cut you off from experiencing the other actors clearly, and consequently diminish the strength of your performance.

Write a biography of your character. This will help give you background for what the character does.

And above all, have a good time!

Word association is a helpful method in memorization of lines. Take a phrase or sentence that is to be memorized and link it to something relevant to the phrase. So when you see that linked item...you instantly are reminded of the sentence needed to be remembered.

Find a way to associate with the lines. Perform them to yourself bits a time. Stanzas are a good way to go as well. In the simplest of terms, these are just groupings of lines, kind of like with poetry. I always just tried acting them out to myself and after a few weeks, I had the lines down pat. Hope this helps.

Associate the lines with a picture in your head of the scene. Have a friend or family member do a reading with you. Start by reading the lines and add the emotion later
