That is out of place. Why should you assist someone in order for them to leave on time? Will someone be assisting YOU in order for YOU to leave on time?

Part of adult work life is teamwork. We go along to get along. Like another poster said - on the clock is on the clock. If it comes down to having to pay a whole shift overtime for staying late, an employer is going to avoid that. It may be that your shift does not have as much of a workload, I dunno. Occasionally having to help other people is a part of teamwork and it looks better if you don't complain. Someday, someone will have to help you.

Depends on the labor laws where you live... Most states can get away with murder in the way they treat their employees.
You wrote "Southeast" which may mean Florida, which is a "right to work" state. In other words, you have the right to work at NO minimum wage!

Depends... were you on the clock when you were assisting or not punched in yet.
Off the clock work is punishable by your state's labor board

If your supervisor gave you an order then you should follow it. On the clock is on the clock.

IF you could not , then there are other options .
IF you told them you would not ever . That ! yea . alright .
