Leisha Hailey (Alice) is the only very open lesbian that's really known so far. She has stated shes not afraid to show it and isn't gonna live in fear. (the only time she worried was when she had to tell her parents she was gay)
Laurel (Tina) is Bisexual but now shes married to a guy, all she will tell you is "I'm just married."
Mia is also Bisexual.
Jennifer Beals (Bette) and Erin Daniels (Dana) are both straight. Which is probably why Erin pulled it off great when Dana started as a lesbian pretending to be straight.
I'm not sure about Rachel (Helena).
Katharine (Shane) isn't talking about her sexual life. But people who have seen her in real life see her with girls a lot. Jennifer once outed Katharine as lesbian but I think shes a closet lesbian... and I think maybe shes just one of those private people who keeps business and private life separated.
But she has never denied being gay so its possible :-)

The problem is that the L Word isn't, and was never meant to be a representation of typical lesbians. I certainly don't take it that way and I wish the general audience would be sophisticated enough to know that it's not supposed to be. The show is so obviously L.A./Hollywood centered with the characters (that's where they live). I see the point in that it is the only lesbian show out there, so it shapes people's perceptions of lesbians. The show is still on the air after four seasons, which I guess is owed in part to its unrealistic portrayal. It's an imperfect situation, but I guess that's the price we pay to have a lesbian series on the air, right?

No only Alex and Shane. Shane is a 'closet' lesbian. You can refer to wikipedia for more information stating that Shane is a 'closet' lesbian. Bett is married.
