hi
i wasnt sure how far along i was when i found out either. i was on the pill injection so had no clue as to the dates.
anyhow, what they did was, after a few weeks of me finding out, they sent me for a'dating scan'. basically they measure the size of the foetus from head to toe and the width of the head. (how they work out whats what at that stage of prgnancy though a simple black and white scan baffles me). the size of the feotus indicates a rough guidline of how old the feotus is. therefore giving u a rough expeting date. they are pretty much accurate give or take up to a week. i was told i was due on the 22nd november but had my daughter the 21st.
dont forget to have all your blood tests done at about 16 weeks to check for abnormalities.
hope this helps.

Let's say the last day of your period was December 1st. If you are a regular every 28 days kind of gal, then you should of ovulated between 11-14 days after your period and you can only conceive on those days. So you would have conceived between the 11th and the 13th. That would make it exactly 4 weeks since you conceived.
However, for some strange reason, doctors say that you have been pregnant since the last day of your period and would say 6 weeks.
At the very most you are 6 weeks along. It takes two weeks for a pregnancy test to show up as positive so you are between 2-6 weeks along. Lets average it and say that you are 4 weeks. That is my guess.
Your doctors can find out 100% from an ultrasound. Without knowing exactly the last day of your last period the numbers above are the closest you can get.
Congratulations.

hey i had the same thing. if you KNOW your last period was in dec, then gd gd, do u remember if it was early dec? just try thinking of something u did when u were on your period, and then roughly what date it was that you did that. for example, did you have any appointments? go shopping and hav a reciept? they'll only want to kno the 1st day of the last period, so a rough one is ok, especially if u kno the month. at first the doc's telling u how far gone u are isn't terribly reliable, i was told i was 11 weeks, went for my 12 week scan and i was suddenly 15 weeks!! i had morning sickness, but i also had a chest infection so thought the puking was part of that! how stupid did i feel!!! oh well. just wait for the 12 week scan for the most accurate dating.
and enjoy! cuz when u get to 6 months u'll be leaking from ur eyes AND breasts 24/7! lol.
congratulations by the way

First of all CONGRATS!!!!I just found out friday that I was 4 weeks pregnant. The first day of my last period was December 20. I have an estimated due date of September 25. So if I were you, I would ask my self, did I have a period before or after Christmas, since u know ur period was in December. And that should help u a little bit on determining the timeframe of ur period. I hope this helps ya.

The doctor will go by your last menstrual period date and that is how far along you are. For example, my last period was Nov 16th, but I know for a fact I conceived on the 30th. I'm still considered 8.5 weeks along right now, even though technically I wasn't pregnant 8.5 weeks ago. Confusing, but try to figure out your last period or around when you had it, and they will go by that. At around 8-10 weeks they will probably do a vaginal ultrasound and can tell further then, as long as they can see the baby.

Without your LMP, they won't be able to really tell until you have a sonogram. At that point they'll measure different things about the baby, the sac, etc. and give you an estimated date of conception. Also during a pelvic exam, sometimes the doctors can guess pretty close depending on the size of your uterus, but a sonogram will be much closer in determining that. Congrats!

The doctor will probably be able to tell how far along you are by measuring the size of your uterus. He does this from the outside of your stomach. Do not worry. They can also give you a ultrasound at 5 months. If they are off a couple of weeks they will recalculate then by the size of the baby in utero. Good luck.

I'm no doctor, but even though you had a period in December, it could have just been an implation bleed so you could be quite a few weeks further on than you though. If that's the case, they might send you for a scan to date you. A similar thing happend to me! Good luck!

Without remembering when your last period was, it is going to be difficult to work out how many weeks you are. Your doctor will send you for a dating scan at approx 12 weeks and they will be able to give you a more precise answer. I knew when my last period was and my scan date still gave a different due date. Unless it is more than a week they will not change your due date.

Your doctor will set up a u/s (ultrasound) and they can tell by the measurements of the baby's head and body to tell you exactly how far along you are. My periods were very irregular so I had to depend on my doc's expertise and luckily I am now 25 weeks pregnant.Good luck to you
