Drink extra fluids and try drinking prune juice or eating prunes. Take a fiber supplement like metamucil, benefiber or citrucel 2-3 times per day but be sure to drink at least an 8 ounce glass of fluid when you take this med. Use a stool softener 2-3 times daily such as docusate aka Colace. Get plenty of exercise. Sit on the toilet for about 5 minutes every morning after breakfast whether you go or not to try to promote a good BM. If the meds the doc has you on aren't working update him so he can prescribe something else as he has no clue they aren't working unless you tell him.

There are several factors involved. The hormonal changes decrease the motility of your intestines, the growing uterus presses on the intestines, iron in your vitamin and you have an increased need for fluids. Most pregnant women don't drink enough water or eat enough fiber. Here is a recipe that I have never seen fail. We have used it for years in the health care field.
Power Pudding
2 1/2 c. Applesauce
1 1/2 c. Prune juice
2/3 c. All Bran
Blend together and eat 1-2 ounces 2-3 times daily. This can be adjusted to your needs. After the initial problem is over, some people eat 1-2 ounce daily for maintenance. This freezes well also and tastes good frozen too.
It's all natural and provides some nutrients. Good luck! Take care!

Fiber. You need at least 25-35 grams per day. Eat whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits. I have found that I also need a supplement like fiberchoice or benefiber. Also, make sure you are drinking enough fluids. You need 8-10 glasses of water a day. Oh, and the reason we get constipated is because the baby is pushing and moving our internal organs causing them to function less efficiently.

My Dr. told me to drink plenty of water and juice. He also said to get plenty of exercise. Just hang in there. Everything that you are going through right now will be like nothing as soon as you lay eyes on your sweet baby. Stool softeners work great to. Make sure you ask your Dr. about the best dosage for you.

I suggest taking all natural Optiflora daily and it will be very helpful. Safe for all ages and while being pregnant. It's a two-product system includes Probiotic (Bifidus & Acidophilus...microflora) + Prebiotic (FOS...food source for microflora). Guaranteed delivery o 500 million microflora to intestines.
Also, if you are taking a prenatal multi, it may contain iron that is not plant based and that could also contribute to your constipation.
Hope this is useful and feel free to contact me with questions.
