If you don't go, you can have a contempt of court charge against you and the judge will issue a warrant for your arrest. You can contact an attorney to go with you, to protect your rights, but that's about it.

You can't avoid it unless you don't mind going to jail. The best thing to do is just go to court and testify if you're called.

If he has hit you, don't you want to see him go to jail? If he likes beating women, he might be beating his current girlfriend, so anything you can do to put him behind bars means that another woman won't get beaten by him.

Talk to the judge beforehand and ask it he or she will let you do a deposition, which is basically a written statement that they can use in court instead of your testimony. That's the only out of it, unless you die.. Good luck, I hope they stick it to him

You don't have to go if you are dead or medically unable to attend. And that doesn't mean sick. That means in a hospital.
