Avg is a good virus scanner. Run it and if you don't have a virus, then make sure you don't have the computer set to automatically shut off or hibernate at certain times. If it's neither, then you cpu may be overheating. Make sure the fan isn't blocked with dirt or any objects and that it is running when the computer is on. Also make sure the fan on the power supply is also running when the computer is on, and if not replace them.

Is it after logging in your local account? Then if there is no any windows error then probably virus. If there is windows error then reinstall it. And if it just restarts continuously during boot, then you have to check your data cable, RAM , u can also switch the data cable to the another port. Coz the wires and circuits may be loose. If there is Beep from the board then service it soon. If u are broad in hardware then reassemble the CPU.
Apparently the Ram may be the problem, but beware of boot virus also. Next time secure your comp by anti virus these days its nasty.

Most probable reason for this is a bad power suppy or CPU fan. The PC gets hot and finally it automatically restarts. Check if the PC is unusually hot when it restarts the nest time. Open the housing and check the fan. Many cases cleaning will make the fan work. Otherwise you have to replace the fan.

If you are using AVG then it's not a virus. It would tell you if u had a virus. It's the processor. The fan, or the processor it's self. Or both. Open up the PC. And then turn it on see if the fan on the processor is running. If it's running but making noise it's going bad. If not that check the power supply fan. If you leave it on all the time. Turn it off at night.

First check for a virus if you have no virus then it is definitely overheating.
Cause can be that the fan is not working properly , in which case you will hear the sound when it is trying to cool down the processor.
If you know stuff about computer hardware , then try to fix this.
If you have no idea about the hardware , then get in a professional for the correct advice.

Your computer restarting on its own is almost always caused by outdated Video Drivers. Go to the computer or video card mfgr. and get the latest (non - beta) drivers.

If new drivers are not available, this work around might help for awhile.

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. On the left side click on "Switch to Classic View", Click Display Icon, click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.

3. Click the Performance or Troubleshooting tab (depending on your operating system), and then reduce hardware acceleration a notch at a time until your system stabilizes.

do not check the capacitors on the motherboard that is the stupidest thing i have heard!!

when your computer restarts go into your CMOS setup by pressing either F1 or Del, it could be a different keys but those are the main two and look through the settings untill you can find the temp of your CPU... your CPU should not be no more than 85 degrees C and about 110 degrees F, those degrees may be off by a little bit
