At what point over the last 30 years did liberals become socialists?

Back in the 30's the head of the American Socialist party said "Under the guise of liberalism, socialism will creep into everyday society until one day America will wake up a socialist nation and wonder how it happened." Have there ever been more prophetic words ever spoken?

A liberal is a socially minded person. A socialist is a person that is one step away from becoming a communist. A communist could care less about anyone but himself. He only cares for the state for what he can get out of the state for himself. Both liberals and socialists can be servants of God, but a communist is a servant of the devil, having no respect for the human being or God's creation. Example: A conservative will rip-off a farmer on the price of milk that he gets from his cow. A moderate will pay the going price for the milk. A liberal or socialist will pay more than the going price for milk and share it with the poor. The communist will kill the farmer, take the milk and poor it down the drain and kill the cow, then haul the cow off to the dump and then tax the poor to pay the cost..

Democrats adopted a few socialistic ideals such as welfare and social security after realizing that lack of these led to the Gret Depression and almost ruined the country. This occcured with FDR and the New Deal, which, along with WWII, pulled Ameirca out of its worst troubles since the Civil War.

Jimminey Carter! Heck look at the propaganda and undermining garbage he is still up to! He also gets credit for this current trend of back seat driving EX-Presidents who do not know that they are no longer running the show!
Gerald Ford has changed my mind about him now that I find he accumulated memoirs with his local Newspaper, that could only be revealed after his death-He agrees with me, that Carter ranked right down there with Harding as the worst!

Added-JFK was the last of the old school Dems. Teddy and his B.Buddy Kerry were Socialists at the time, and Teddy was the Black sheep of the family! One of the things I admire about the Governator is he is an Old School Dem! Of course that now makes him a Republican!!!
JFK, would have nothing to do with the Democratic Socialist Party of today!

Also added--Curious O-Do not confuse Liberal with Libs-they are anything BUT!-They are as conservative about their socialistic views as it gets, and tolerate no other views!

to answer the question... i believe it has progressively gotten worse since FDR. But the armchair politicos claim that if JFK were alive to day he would be a republican. Not totally unbelievable as Bush is a liberal posing to be a conservative.

With "republicans" like Bush -- it's no wonder the liberals are becoming socialists.

If I had to draw a line somewhere I would say at some point during the FDR administration. The world wide socialist movement made huge advances just prior to the great depression and used the depression to consolidate their gains.

True liberals moved to the left when Thatcher and Reagan took the conservative movement towards libertarian small government values.

This co-incided with the traditional "left wing parties" moving to the left (ie, Mondale-Ferraro in the USA and Michael Foot in the UK).

As the Conservatives/Rupublicans moved to a libertarian platform, and the traditional parties of Labor moved to the left - this made the liberals move into the void.

I would say around the Carter Reagan era I think that they have always had this illusion that America believes what they believe ( i will give you an illustration) one tv reporter at the time commented that she can't believe Nixon won (in a landslide) because she did'nt know anyone who voted for him.

So every time a conservative wins a election it just frustrates them more and more and they end up becoming more and more extreme.
