He's still up three times at night, usually not hungry but having gas. Unfortunately, the only thing that calms him is to nurse a little bit. Mylicon is useless and I tried going off of dairy which also didn't help. Someone at least tell me you have the same problems so I know it's not just us!

Your not alone in your waking hours. Try propping his matress up a little bit. Roll a towel up and put it under his matress. Also make an appointment with your DR. and ask about reflux. sound to me that is what the problem is. Also try a night light in a corner behind some furniture or toys. it could also be that. Or it could be that he just isn't sleeping through the night and needs that extra nursing. My daughter is 11 months and still wakes up in the middle of the night to nurse. not ever night but maybe two or three times month.

You could also try to feed him a little cereal before bed. If you think that is to much try what I call a goody bottle.
6 oz breast milk or formula
1 1/2 tsp cereal
2 tsp fruit

in a bottle or sippy cup and give him that. that worked for my son. he had these before bed until he was bottle broken at 2.

Really the list could go on and on but just try different things until you find something that works for you.

Good luck and I hope that you get some well needed rest.

i hate to say it but hes probably just not ready to sleep through the night. When I was a baby i didnt sleep through the night for at least a year. Asfar as gas and still nursing, i dont really know. I have heard that when a baby has gas and he keeps eating it only makes the gas worse. If mylicon drops arent working, talk to your doctor. There may be anothr medicine for gas that he can take.
Also when he wkes up, have you tried just putting thepacifier in his mouth instead of picking him up and nursin him? He may just be used to that routine. it might make for more sleepless nights, but ten again- youre already up three times a night.

7 month old could be teething as well; what about giving a little more cereal at night? that's what i did and it worked like a charm; at that point my daughter was getting 3 tablespoons of cereal with 1/2 a jar of fruit on top and 4 oz of milk after the cereal... and she slept from 8pm until 6am... good luck!! and remember just when you think you have them figured out... a new stage will come in.. time and patience!!

No offense to people who breastfeed, but my baby and I both started sleeping through the night when I gave her a supplemental bottle and even better when she started eating cereal. I had plenty of milk and nursed every 2-3 hours, it was exhausting, the first time I gave her a supplemental bottle (similac) she slept for 18 hours, needless to say we stopped breastfeeding. I have seen babies and there moms put themselves through needless sleepless nights when the baby just needs something to eat. If I were you I would contact my pediatrician. You are absolutely normal and so is your baby.

How long did you eliminate dairy? It takes 2-3 weeks to get it out of both of your systems. So if you tried the elimination diet for less than 3 weeks, you don't know for sure if it helps or not.

I don't think babies are supposed to sleep all night, especially breast fed babies that find comfort in nursing. I would just enjoy it while it lasts. OR Are you sure he is really waking up, and not either crying in his sleep or just fussing for a minute. Maybe try just watching him for a 10 or fifteen seconds before you do anything that could wake him up even more. ??

The only way they learn to put themselves back to sleep is to be left with no alternative. You are going to have to let him cry it out. It happens to everyone, and it takes a week or two, but you have to be strong. You'll learn to recognize the difference between fussy crying and a real emergency.

have you tried burping him before he sleeps or moving meals to an earlier time?

You MUST let him cry it out. It will NOT hurt him. It's the only way to break this bad habit.
