I had been there 10 years ago, up in the mountains at night time experienced the most beautiful star encrusted sky. i was there in august when lots of village festivals/celebrations happen called 'panigiria', with live music and lots of cheap wine. i stayed in my friend's house in 'Christos Rahon' a village up in the mountains where the pace of life is sooo slow and most shops didn't open till 9o clock in the night! it was a bit cold in the night but very hot in daytime..the seas in ikaria can be rough. although im a good swimmer i found it hard to swim and ended up swallowing lots of sea water. I was very impressed with eudilos port views when you arrive by ferry. You can get the ferry to ikaria from pireas (athen's port) i think it takes 7, 8 hours if im not wrong. Transport wise you could rent a car/ motorbike or taxis as buses are not very regular. I personally hitchhiked in the back of the locals' vans! I think is worth visiting as it was not as touristy as other greek islands and relatively unspoiled.

I ve never been there but a colleague of mine was born and raised there. He has spent all summers of his life there. It 's a tranquil island, green , with nice beaches .. but still quite small. there are not a lot of things to do, but it depends on why u want to visit it..
still u can visit the near-by island, Samos , that is beautiful, green and much bigger, with more things to do and places to see.
