Here are just a few facts everyone should know before buying anything containing canola. Canola is not the name of a natural plant but a made-up word, from the words "Canada" and "oil". Canola is a genetically engineered plant developed in Canada from the Rapeseed Plant, which is part of the mustard family of plants. According to AgriAlternatives, The Online Innovation, and Technology Magazine for Farmers, "By nature, these rapeseed oils, which have long been used to produce oils for industrial purposes, are... toxic to humans and other animals". (This, by the way, is one of the websites singing the praises of the new canola industry.)
Rapeseed oil is poisonous to living things and is an excellent insect repellent. I have been using it (in very diluted form, as per instructions) to kill the aphids on my roses for the last two years. It works very well; it suffocates them. Ask for it at your nursery. Rape is an oil that is used as a lubricant, fuel, soap and synthetic rubber base and as a illuminate for color pages in magazines. It is an industrial oil. It is not a food. Rape oil, it seems, causes emphysema, respiratory distress, anemia, constipation, irritability, and blindness in animals and humans.
Rape oil was widely used in animal feeds in England and Europe between 1986 and 1991, when it was thrown out. Remember the "Mad Cow disease" scare, when millions of cattle in the UK were slaughtered in case of infecting humans? Cattle were being fed on a mixture containing material from dead sheep, and sheep suffer from a disease called "scrapie". It was thought this was how "Mad Cow" began and started to infiltrate the human chain. What is interesting is that when rape oil was removed from animal feed, 'scrapie' disappeared.
This information, and more, can be found at many sites on the internet. I have been hearing this for years, and the more I research it on my own, the more I believe it!

Valentine is correct. The best, most healthy and safest oil to use for cooking is coconut oil. If olive oil or canola oil is heated to high temperatures, their chemical structure can change producing harmful results to the body. AND, if you think your food tastes better with the canola oil, you're in for a real treat with the coconut oil. Use only a very high quality coconut oil.

Its better to cook in Canola oil. Canola oil is thin and flavorless. Instead of canola oil giving the the food flavor the natural flavors of the food exudes over the oil. Canola is cholesterol free 1 gram of fat and has 50% less saturated fats then olive and vegetable oil. Vegetable oil is made of canola oil and other added extracts. I personally like peanut oil but if im having a party or something ill use canola just in case some of my guests are allergic to peanuts.

Actually, the best oil for stir-fry is peanut oil, because it tolerates much higher temperatures than any other oil. But beware lest your guests have peanut allergies. Olive oil has many wonderful properties, but it does not tolerate higher temperatures well. What is the best oil for cooking? That depends on what you are cooking and how you are cooking it. I generally use canola oil, despite the fact that it is not as flavorful or healthful as olive oil. But that's not a hard and fast rule.

that depends on the source of the vegetable oil. Try using a heavy oil like olive oil for cooking. Stay away from the hydrogenated oils. Sometimes I use peanut oil for cooking or walnut oil. It depends on what flavor I want. Canola oil is the most common oil used for popcorn cooking.

Olive oil, coconut oil, walnut oil, macadamia nut oil. Any of those are WAY better than vegetable and canola. Look up and research the oils I have mentioned. Just stop using vegetable and canola please.

The best oil to cook with is coconut oil. It does some amazing things - read the Coconut Oil Miracle by Bruce Fife and you'll see what I mean. Food tastes good, and your body is able to assimilate it better. Only the unrefined stuff though.
