how many people out there agree that we should rename MLK day to Civil Rights Day or something like it, in honor of all of our American heroes who fought for civil rights, regardless of their race, gender, etc?

my point is that blacks were not the only groups in the country that fought for civil rights, for themselves or others. the USA gov had bad periods with everyone (native americans, etc)

I agree to a point. However, MLK did so much for civil rights that his name is synonyms with it. To change it would be like saying he didn't advocate civil rights. I can see where you're coming from because it MLK Day makes it sound like it's all about the african-american community. I'm korean myself and I think that no matter what you call it, you can't change the meaning behind the day. People will still see it the same way they see it today. This doesn't mean i'm right, it's just an opinion.

I think that the day should be renamed as Civil Rights day because Martin Luther King Jr. was a Civil Rights leader and he focused on civil liberties for all people.

No, it has to stay MLK Day, so that it fits in with the curriculum developed for public schools' observance of Black History Month.
