To preserve free societies from their own internal dangers... well, if you're talking about the U.S. then I believe that the Bush Administration needs to focus on problems at home instead of focusing on problems abroad (Iraq, Iran..etc.) While Bush is concerned about the Middle East problems: Israel Palestine conflict, Iran, Iraq and so on there is a danger threatening us here at home.
1. Mexico. the people jumping over the fence. ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARE ATTACKING THE U.S.
2. Another problem is CHINA. China is going to be the next superpower unless we start focusing on problems at home
That's all I got, I hope it helps :)

To preserve free societies from internal dangers, they should preserve the need of freedom of speech and thought. Free societies have a larger chance to move forward than other societies, because they are willing to accept differences, and make it a catalyst to produce a synthesis.
When free societies no longer accept the value of freedom and mutual understanding, the free societies are no longer free.

People need care and some control like children (who thinks he is adult can throw me by stone :) ). World is not habitated only by people with high morality and wright behave and experience - it is imposible utopian vision even when thinking about a small improvement in today society :(. AND we share this world, other people are our neighbourhood, their doings affect our lives no matter of lenght sooner or later, like "effect of butterfly". Believe me if you improve their life you help yourself. Wait for longer answers, my is only small piece. I predict someone smarter should give you longer and more satysfying answer :)... or I am wrong : I .

Break it down into an essay plan and a list of questions. Then, when you are stuck on one of the questions, but have some views - then.... put a question on yahoo answers.
This question is just too broad/deep and I am sure nobody can be bothered.
