this country is better than the one they have come from usually and as a result the education and future prospects are better and i suppose that's what every parent wants for there kids

I grew up with kids from other cultures, yes there parents were immigrants.

These kids were worked hard at school and had to achieve top grades or be punished rather badly.

Also our culture is/was very lazy and did not like school or participate to the full.Teachers love to teach and will give more if somebody is making an effort.

Consequently ,who got all the good jobs and who had to study hard later in life to achieve.

Our education system is excellent and English is the most common business spoken word in the world,we have free health care and a benefit system to take poorer people through university.

Wouldn't you move here to take advantage of this if you could.

Also remember these people have rights as they were all members of the late great British empire,in other words a lot of people believe this is pay back time!

BE HAPPY !! Most of the immigrants I know have little or no expectations of their children other than to drive a nice truck !!
Whoopee Ding !!

Come to America to get a nice truck, live in a shithole and teach your children how to steal and screw the system just like the mom & dad are... Amazing this country does as well as it does... having so many immigrants like this! Its all very sad!

This is the land of milk and honey.......how could they possibly fail?

Fear of failure is worse than actual failure and if you have something to loose that fear is far worse. If however you have nothing to loose, the only way is up.

We paint a picture of the UK that shows the best of what we have; like the Yanks do with Hollywood. So like alot of stupid people from UK believe that America is like the movies; the land of milk and honey, so too the immigrants to the UK have the same opinion.

The worrying thing is that with a positive outlook, nothing to loose and everything to gain; give them ten years and they WILL be running the Country!

We should definitely discourage it, that's for sure. High expectations for your kids. That's crazy! :P

It's totally a cultural thing. Other cultures value education and hard work far more than some of the cultures of the more industrial countries. This isn't to say that all industrial countries are lazy, and it isn't to say that all immigrants are hard-working.

I think everyone should have high expectations for their kids. One reason immigrants might have slightly higher expectations for their children is because it might be to late for the individual themselves to go to school and have the future that they would have liked to have and so they moved so that their children could have these opportunities.

I thought that was the way it always went. The more trouble the parent has, the more pressure they put on the kids to overcome it for them.
If you're an immigrant, you must have been in someway dissatisfied with home, more thatn anyone else from there.

I think those with high expectations want their children to benefit from the greater advantages offered. That translates to high expectations.

because every kid in Britain is a spoilt little brat and foreigners realise that given the same opportunity as British youngsters and with the smallest amount of effort (which is more than any British kid is going to give) they can make a very good living for themselves .
