The first game that comes to mind for me is MapleStory. It's it's own virtual world, and you fight monsters and the like, but a large part of the game is interacting with people, making friends, that kind of a thing. It's cute and easy-going, but pretty addictive. I wouldn't start playing if you don't have freetime on your hands.
