its a really bad idea because you might even start to feel something for them but if your not attracted to them it can screw everything up in th long run

I think that's a contradiction. To me, liking someone and being attracted to them is the same thing. I mean, you can like someone in a non-sexual way, but that's usually not what you mean when you say you like someone.
Very simple, if are not attracted to someone, you should not date them. (BTW, that means that you do NOT like them)
