I have recurrent UTI's (urinary tract infections). I am sick of going into the doctor everytime I get one. My doctor hasn't prescribed a preventitive antibiotic (and has no intention) so I am looking for ways I can take care of it my self.

I had this problem before also. here is what I do
1) After sex always pee as soon as possible. Sex pushes bacteria that occurs naturally up in to your urethra( the part you pee out of)

2) Get in the habit of eating asparagus. Always have a can on hand If you start to feel the start of the infection eat a can of it. Your pee will smell really bad but it cleans out the whole bladder system.
For a few months I would get in the habit of just grabbing a can as soon as your period starts. That way You will be getting in the habit of preventing the problem before it starts. Any woman having sex or bladder infections should do this.

ok what to do if you hate asparagus. Use hollandaise sauce, it will cover the taste but still cure you. or just remember that eating it takes less time then driving to the doctor.

3) Keep a bottle of cranberry juice in your fridge. If you don't like it mix it with something you do.

4) Clean your female parts good It should not smell like fish. A fish smell means you are not cleaning right. I only use grandpa's pine tar soap on my putang. Flowery stuff will make you itch. Soap taste like crap and never rinses off all the way. Grandpa's Pine tar soap is found in health stores, and I think GNC but I am not sure of that. Spend the 25 bucks and buy a hand held shower nozzle Spread your legs and clean all the cracks and crevices. It is amazing how many gals do not.

A preventive antibiotic is bad for you and really not needed.

Hi hun. I am a nurse. First of all once you get a UTI you cannot cure it "naturally", but there are many things you can do to prevent them. People say cranberry juice but you'd have to drink lots. There is a pill over that counter called AZO. It is consisted of highly concentrated cranberry juice and other stuff. It is WIDELY used for people like you and works very well. It is safe to take every day. Also, a lot of the UTI's I see are from women not cleaning themselves well after intercourse. This is a must. Try these 2 things and I think you'll see a big difference. If you have one now...do not let it go. UTI's that are ignored can cause kidney damage. Good Luck!

First off be sure he is culturing your urine each time to be he has you on the right antibiotic. Once you are done with antibiotic he should retest your urine to be sure the infection is gone. Since your doc has no intention of treating your chronic UTI's I would also suggest seeing a urologist to get his input on this and be sure there is no other medical cause for your frequent UTI's. Drink cranberry juice or take cranberry capsules a couple of times a day and increase your vitamin C intake. Drink plenty of water to help keep the bacteria in your bladder flushed out. If you are sexaully active be sure to urinate before sex and immediately after sex to flush out any bacteria that might be in the bladder. Be sure to see a urologist though to get this thoroughly checked out and properly treated if necessary.

Washing the vaginal and groin area daily with a mild unscented soap is one of the other measures adopted for the prevention of urinary tract infection. Avoiding the use of perfumed soaps, bath oils, bubble baths and talcum powders in the groin area is one of the other measures adopted for the prevention of urinary tract infection.

Look up these medicines: UTI-Clear and ImmunityPlus (UTI-Clear is a proven, 100% safe and natural, clinically created herbal remedy that clears and prevents UTI (urinary tract infections), bladder infections and cystitis. 1. Wash the area daily with a mild soap and change tampons frequently
2. Wipe from front to back after using the toilet
3. Avoid tight clothing
4. Drink lots of water every day
5. Go to the health food store and get some probiotics like Lactobacillus acidophilus and see if that helps.
6. Reduce your sugar intake so the bacteria don't have a feast
7. Cranberries and cranberry juice, dandelion leaf tea, and slippery elm bark (if you can get it) are all good soothers of the urinary tract.

I know how you feel! I've got the same problem. I find it best to drink lots of cranberry juice (the real potent kind) and ALWAYS pee after having sex. Also, wiping from front to back after going pee helps prevent pushing bacteria into the opening. All these things will seriously reduce the amount of UTI's you get. I hope this helps you out!
