The movie was terrific, and it's probably my favorite film of 2006. I'm normally not a fan of musicals, but I've already seen this movie twice. The performances are all outstanding, and it captures the feel of its time period brilliantly. If you're a fan of the 60s/70s pop music scene, go check it out.

Great music and great acting. They made Curtis Jackson (Jamie Foxx) into a stonecold villain. Nice cinematography. The movie is about the Supremes.Deena Jones as Diana Ross who replaced the original lead singer Effie White aka Florence Ballard. Curtis Jackson aka Berry Gordy also dated Diana Ross. They did this movie well and I was entertained through it all. I saw it on MLK day and there was some allusions to the movement.

I saw it today and I had tears running down my face when Jennifer Hudson sang "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going".
The story is not a biopic of the Supremes but there are certainly parallels with their story. The three grew up in the "projects" in Detroit and began singing in church choir and as a girl group called The Primettes. Berry Gordy signed them to a Motown record contract and at first Florence was the lead singer. Later she was fired as lead singer by Gordy and replaced by Diana Ross Ballard began to have problems with drinking and depression and was subsequently fired from the group. She tried a solo career but failed. She tried to sue Motown for dismissing her but the suit was dismissed. She had 3 children. Mary Wilson (the third "Supreme") flew her to California in the 70s, but her continued use of pills and booze brought an early death at 32, although she had gone through rehab and was in the beginnings of a comeback.
Diana Ross had Berry Gordy's child (a girl, I believe).

I'm pretty sure the movie was based on the Supremes, and I don't know their full story but it was probably portrayed well with a little hollywood-ization [changed it to be a better movie.] I really loved the movie. the music was fantastic, it was moving and just very good! You should definitely go see it. I'm going to learn a little more about the Supremes :]

Yeah, I have to admit, this movie was the bomb. It's got great music, and a good theme. Beyonce, her acting was good, but Jenifer Hudson took the stage. Her character "Effie White" was such a soul sister. I'm not going to spoil it for those of you who haven't seen it, but it just goes to show that payback is a B!*%h. The music industry is nothing to play with, but if you've got it, you've got it. Check it out everyone. (Beyonce was soooo fine!!!)
